India's May tourist arrivals rise 8.6 pct y/y

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Tourist arrivals in India rose 8.6 percent in May from a year earlier, while foreign exchange earnings from the sector rose at a more sluggish 2.8 percent year on year, the government said on Tuesday.

The number of visitors increased to 290,785 in May compared with 267,758 in the same month last year, it said. Revenue in the month rose to $630 million versus $613 million in May 2007.
