Ranbir wins hearts with comic turn in 'Bachna Ae Haseeno'

MUMBAI (Reuters) - With "Bachna Ae Haseeno" getting off to a good start at the Bollywood box-office, Ranbir Kapoor is glad people are recognising his flair for comedy, a genre of acting he finds "really difficult".

"I have always loved comedy, but I wasn’t too sure whether I would be good at it," Kapoor told Reuters in an interview.

Kapoor, who belongs to one of Bollywood's oldest and most powerful dynasties, played a young lover in "Saawariya", much like his father Rishi whose romantic roles made him an eternal lover boy.

But the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film didn’t live up to expectations and foundered at the box office, becoming one of Bollywood’s biggest failures in 2007.

"Bachna Ae Haseeno," which opened in cinemas in Aug. 15, is a comedy featuring Kapoor as a commitment-phobic Casanova who gets a taste of his own medicine.

"It’s really difficult to do comedy, but I really enjoyed it, especially on the sets … because the atmosphere was such," the 25-year-old actor said.

"(It) was written so funnily that it wasn’t too difficult to pull those scenes off.”

Next up for Kapoor are projects with filmmakers Raj Kumar Santoshi and Ayan Mukherjee.
