France arrests five suspects over attack plan

PARIS (Reuters) - French police arrested five people in the western city of Rennes on Thursday on suspicion of planning an attack but no arms had been discovered, a police source said.

An anti-terrorist unit had not found any arms or explosives during a search and those taken into custody did not appear on any list of suspected terrorists, the source said.

Investigations were at this stage centred on verifying allegations, made by people close to them, that the youths were planning an attack linked to Islamist motivations, the source said. Further details were not immediately available.
