BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai army chief General Anupong Paochinda will hold a news conference later on Wednesday after meeting with government officials and business leaders to discuss escalating protests in Bangkok.

The news conference is scheduled to begin at around 3 p.m. (0800), an army spokesman told reporters.

The unrest in Bangkok has triggered speculation the army will try to force the government to stand down.
