Norwegian officer killed in Afghanistan road blast

OSLO (Reuters) - A Norwegian intelligence officer was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan on Friday, Norway's military said.

The blast occurred west of Mazar-I-Sharif in northern Afghanistan, a military statement said in a statement.

Four Norwegian soldiers from a unit stationed at Meymaneh were riding in two vehicles the explosion hit. No one else was wounded, the military said.

Norway has about 500 soldiers serving with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan.

The officer killed on Friday was the fourth Norwegian soldier killed in service in Afghanistan since the mission began.
