Shiney Ahuja's bail plea rejected
MUMBAI (Reuters) - A city court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja who is in prison on charges of rape, prosecutors said.
The actor, who has been sent to judicial custody till July 16, had applied for bail on the grounds that he was falsely implicated by his maid.
"The court has refused to grant him bail," Chief Public Prosecutor Ramnath Kini told Reuters.
"The prosecution argued that Ahuja, being a well known personality and a moneyed person, could tamper with witnesses."
Ahuja, 36, has been in jail since June 15, a day after he was accused of raping his maid at his Mumbai residence.
The actor, who made his debut with the critically-acclaimed film "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" in 2003, faces a prison sentence of at least seven years if found guilty of rape, criminal intimidation and wrongful confinement charges.
