BSE Sensex extends gains to 1 pct

MUMBAI (Reuters) – The BSE Sensex extended its gains to 1 percent by early afternoon on Wednesday, tracking higher Asian markets and as strong results from U.S. firms Goldman Sachs and Intel raised hopes for a global economic recovery.

At 12:15 p.m. (0645 GMT), the 30-share BSE index was up 0.9 percent at 13,981.88 points, with 23 stocks gaining, after rising to as much as 13,997.79.

The 50-share NSE index was up 1.1 percent at 4,154.90.
