Briefs 2-Manchester City sign Ben Haim, Barry to stay at Villa

July 30 (Reuters) - Sports news in brief from around the world:

Soccer - Manchester City have signed Israel defender Tal Ben Haim from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Ben Haim, 26, who joined Chelsea in June last year, made only 17 starts for the London club and has signed a four-year deal with City, the club said on their website (www.mcfc.co.uk).

He previously had a spell in the north west with Bolton Wanderers.

Soccer - England midfielder Gareth Barry will stay at Aston Villa, the Premier League club announced on its website (www.avfc.co.uk) on Wednesday.

Villa said the deadline to conclude a possible move to Liverpool has now passed, keeping their 27-year-old captain at the Birmingham club.
