Indian bank loans up 25.5 pct in two weeks to May 23

MUMBAI, June 6 (Reuters) - India banks' loans INLOAN=ECI rose 25.5 percent year-on-year in the two weeks to May 23, the central bank's weekly statistical supplement showed on Friday.

Deposits were up 23.9 percent from a year earlier.

Outstanding loans rose 177.61 billion rupees to 23.64 trillion rupees in the two weeks to May 23.

Non-food credit rose by 134.60 billion rupees to 23.10 trillion rupees in the two weeks, while food credit rose by 43.01 billion rupees to 543.43 billion rupees in the same period.

Banks' deposits gained by 147.33 billion rupees to 32.35 trillion rupees in the two weeks to May 23. (Reporting by Mumbai Treasury Desk; Editing by Ramya Venugopal)
