HOUSTON, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Luminant shut the 575-megawatt Unit 1 at the Big Brown coal-fired power station in Texas over the weekend for a month-long outage, the company told Texas regulators in a report.

The unit shut Saturday and maintenance activity may last until Dec. 8, the report said.

Unit 1 was shut this month due to high vibration in the bearings on the main turbine, according to previous filings.

The 1,150 MW Big Brown station is located near Fairfield in Freestone County about 90 miles southeast of Dallas. The station has two 575 MW Units 1 and 2, which entered service in 1971 and 1972.

The plant burns lignite coal from nearby mines, supplemented by subbituminous coal brought by train from other western states.

One MW powers about 500 homes in Texas.

Luminant is a subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings Corp, of Dallas, the former TXU Corp, now that TXU has completed its transformation into a privately held company.

Luminant owns and operates more than 18,000 MW of generating capacity.
