TOKYO, Sept 5 (Reuters) - The benchmark Tokyo platinum contract plunged by the daily 300 yen limit on Friday amid concerns over demand for autocatalysts due to poor car sales.

Platinum and other precious metals were also under strong downward pressure due to the strength of the dollar against the euro and weaker oil prices.

The benchmark contract for August 2009 delivery <0#JPL:> on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange fell by the daily 300 yen limit, or 6.1 percent, to 4,612 yen per gram. (Reporting by Chikafumi Hodo)
