US lawmakers urge broadened Pentagon tanker review
WASHINGTON, July 30 (Reuters) - A U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee that funds the Pentagon said Wednesday it was urging that "industrial base" concerns be factored into a renewed, multibillion-dollar transatlantic competition to supply refueling tankers to the Air Force.
The recommendation was part of a fiscal 2009 defense spending bill, which is subject to review by the full House Appropriations Committee and would need to be reconciled with the Senate. It could be a blow to Northrop Grumman Corp (NOC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and Europe's EADS (EAD.PA: Quote, Profile, Research), which are partnered in an effort to win the tanker deal over Chicago-based Boeing Co (BA.N: Quote, Profile, Research).
