India approves $5.7 bln mobile airwave surcharge-minister

NEW DELHI, Nov 8 (Reuters) - India's federal cabinet on Thursday approved a plan to levy a $5.7 billion total surcharge on airwaves held by long-established telecommunications operators, a government minister said.

The move is expected to hit market leaders Bharti Airtel and Vodafone's local unit and two state-run carriers the most.
