Imere Technologies provides geospatial features for mobile and internet location-based services.

Rediff.com India has invested in Imere Technologies, a Bangalore based location sensing company. The amount of investment is not disclosed. The company provides geospatial features for mobile and internet location-based services. Imere’s technologies work without the need for GPS on mobile phones.

On the internet, the company aims to bring high levels of user location accuracy without entirely being dependant on IP addresses.

Ajit Balakrishnan, Chairman and CEO, Rediff.com said “Location-awareness in applications is critical for hyper-local search and local advertising besides many evolving social networking and enterprise applications. Imere’s technology is very cost effective in delivering location awareness.”

Imere uses Cell-ID, Wi-Fi, GPS, IP Addresses and proprietary algorithms in its technologies, for both mobile and internet applications. Imere will be initially focusing on the emerging domestic market before going global.

Early this year, rediff reportedly picked up a 26% stake in the US based educational testing services provider, Examville.com. Examville.com provides testing services for SAT and other examinations.

The portal is a global educational community that allows users to connect and interact with other students and teachers from around the world.
