Indian shares open 0.7 percent up on firm Asia

MUMBAI, May 16 (Reuters) - Indian shares opened 0.7 percent higher on Friday, boosted by strong overseas markets, and led by gains in ICICI Bank Ltd (ICBK.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) and Infosys Technologies Ltd (INFY.BO: Quote, Profile, Research).

At 9:55 a.m. (0425GMT), the 30-share BSE index was up 122.87 points at 17,476.41.

The 50-issue NSE index rose 0.49 percent at 5,140.30.
