NEW DELHI, July 2 (Reuters) - Steel Authority of India (SAIL) (SAIL.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) said it sold 1.11 million tonnes of steel in the domestic market in June, 36 percent more than a year earlier.

SAIL sold a total of 2.65 million tonnes in the quarter to June, it said in a statement on Wednesday.

Sales of thermo-mechanically treated (TMT) bars, used in buildings and constructions, rose 74 percent on the year, while those of hot-rolled (HR) coils went up by 20 percent, SAIL said.

SAIL and other steel producers in India have not raised prices since April despite sharp rises in iron ore and coke prices, after agreeing to help the government's efforts to tame inflation, which has since hit 13-year highs. (Reporting by C.J. Kuncheria)
