Senate approves two-week U.S. farm law extension
WASHINGTON, May 1 (Reuters) - Senators approved a two-week extension of agricultural programs on Thursday, a stopgap until a new $610 billion farm law is ready for a vote, possibly next week.
House and Senate negotiators say the new law is nearly ready for a vote. Congress is seven months behind schedule with the new law and has passed a series of short-term extensions.
The House was expected to pass the extension, running until May 16, later in the day. The Senate passed the extension on a voice vote with no objections. (Reporting by Charles Abbott; Editing by David Gregorio)
