RATE FUTURES-Imply 90 pct chance of US rate hike by yr-end
NEW YORK, May 13 (Reuters) - U.S. short-term interest rate futures sharply raised the implied chances of a Federal Reserve rate hike by the end of this year after signs of consumers resilience in a retail sales report released on Tuesday.
Fed funds futures showed the perceived chance of a 25 basis-point rate hike by the end of the year rose to about 90 percent, steeply up from a roughly 40 percent perceived chance on Monday.
The fed funds target rate, the benchmark rate for interbank lending the Federal Reserve sets, stands at 2.0 percent after the U.S. central bank has cut rates by 325 basis points since September. (Reporting by John Parry and Ros Krasny; Editing by James Dalgleish)
