Brazil's central bank calls auction to buy dollars

SAO PAULO, May 18 (Reuters) - Brazil's central bank offered to buy dollars on the spot foreign exchange market on Monday, seeking to soak up a flood of greenbacks flowing into the country for a seventh straight session.

The real (BRBY: Quote, Profile, Research) was trading 1.5 percent stronger at 2.078 per U.S. dollar shortly after the central bank announcement.

On May 8, the bank bought dollars for the first time in eight months as the real gained close to the psychologically key mark of two per dollar. (Reporting by Jose de Castro, Writing by Todd Benson)
