Obama: U.S. must rein in deficits
WASHINGTON, June 9 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama on Tuesday pledged to be mindful of the need to tame high budget deficits while tackling some of his top priorities, such as overhauling the health care system.
Obama, in prepared remarks for a speech, listed health care, energy policy and education as long-term issues the country needs to address.
"But we are also called upon to rein in deficits by addressing these and other challenges in a manner that is fiscally responsible," the president said, while announcing his backing for legislation that would require new tax cuts or spending proposals be paid for within the budget.
