HONG KONG, May 16 (Reuters) - Shares in Dongfang Electric Corp Ltd (1072.HK: Quote, Profile, Research), China's top power generator maker, fell 11.83 percent on Friday after it said the earthquake in Sichuan had seriously damaged production at its steam turbine business.

Shares in Dongfang were set to open at HK$26.45. Trading of the shares was suspended on Tuesday.

The steam turbine business accounted for 20 percent of its operating revenue in 2007, it said in a statement late on Thursday.

The company (600875.SS: Quote, Profile, Research) also said there were casualties at the steam turbine operation in Hanwang town in Mianzhu, but gave no further details.

The quake had little impact on its other operations, while production and operations at its headquarters had been fully restored, the company said. (Reporting by Judy Hua; Editing by Anne Marie Roantree)
