Enel to look at E.ON assets for sale - report
FRANKFURT, March 8 (Reuters) - Italian power producer Enel (ENEI.MI: Quote, Profile, Research) might consider buying generation capacity to be divested by German utility E.ON EONG.DE, a German newspaper on Saturday quoted Enel Chief Executive Fulvio Conti as saying.
E.ON has said it aims to sell its long-distance power grid as well as sell or swap 4,800 megawatt in generation capacity to settle two European Commission antitrust cases against it.
Asked by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung whether Enel would be interested in those assets, Conti said: "This is a good opportunity to take a closer look.
"It is our obligation to study all possibilities and then decide whether it is worth it and whether it fits strategically," he told the newspaper in an interview.
Conti said on Thursday that Enel expected substantial developments by the end of this month in talks to sell assets worth billions of euros to E.ON.
He was referring to assets in Spain, Italy and France, which Enel is selling with Spanish partner Acciona (ACS.MC: Quote, Profile, Research). E.ON has agreed to buy the assets as a consolation prize after its own bid for Spanish utility Endesa (ELE.MC: Quote, Profile, Research) lost out to Enel and Acciona.
