DUBLIN, July 25 (Reuters) - Irish carrier Aer Lingus (AERL.I: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Friday it would increase fuel surcharges on four routes to the United States next week due to a 50 percent rise in jet fuel spot prices since the beginning of the year.

"The overall effect of the price of fuel continues to be extremely challenging for the airline industry, despite some price fluctuations over the last number of days," Corporate Affairs Director Enda Corneille said in a statement.

Raising fuel surcharges for the fourth time this year, the former state airline said the surcharge for flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles would rise by 10 euros or $15 to 110 euros and $150.

The surcharge will also rise for routes to Orlando and Chicago, but not for shorter services to Boston, New York and Washington.

"We will continue to keep the situation under review," Corneille said. (Reporting by Andras Gergely; Editing by Quentin Bryar)
