- Prime Minister Vladimir Putin promised to his Finnish counterpart Matti Vanhanen on Sunday that export duties on Russian timber will not be increased in 2010.

- An opposition activist from Russia's restive Ingushetia region was killed on Sunday in the nearby region of Kabardino-Balkaria, the daily says.

- President Dmitry Medvedev met leaders of parliamentary opposition on Saturday to discuss political situation in Russia, the paper reports.

- President Medvedev has sacked an interior minister of the Siberian region of Tuva after a local drunk policeman shot dead one fellow-officer and severely injured another before taking his life on Saturday, the daily writes.
