US Cash Products-Chicago gasoline jumps on refiner buying
NEW YORK, March 10 (Reuters) - Gasoline surged in the Chicago market on Monday on regional refinery outages and snags, while values were flat to a tad higher in the Gulf Coast and the New York Harbor, traders said.
"At least two refiners are buying," said one Midwest oil trader.
Marathon said it began a turnaround at its 100,000 barrel per day refinery near Detroit. [ID:nN10456455] Traders expect work on the hydrocracker and reformer at Marathon's 192,000 bpd Robinson, Illinois, refinery to begin by the end of the week.
Trading was on the thin side in other markets, with many players out of pocket at the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association annual meeting this week in San Diego.
"A lot of people are still out of pocket at NPRA, we are seeing better offered but very thin market," said a trader.
In other refinery news, the 225,000-bpd sour crude unit at BP's refinery in Texas City, Texas, is in the process of restart, a source said. The unit, which was shut ahead of Hurricane Rita in September 2005, is the final major unit to restart at the 475,000-bpd refinery. [ID:nN10309746]
Shell said all units at its 333,700 bpd Deer Park, Texas, refinery had restarted Sunday and it expects the plant to reach full rates within a day or two. [ID:nN10441550]
ConocoPhillips said there was no estimate for the return to full rates at its 247,000-bpd Belle Chase, Louisiana, refinery after unplanned work on a low sulfur gas unit. [ID:nN10483717]
