NEW YORK, March 12 (Reuters) - El Paso Corp (EP.N: Quote, Profile, Research) unit Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co declared force majeure on its natural gas pipeline system off the shore of Louisiana due to an "unexpected incident" caused by third party pipeline replacement, the company said in a Web site posting.

"Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co is declaring a force majeure effective immediately for meters located in the South Marsh Island 249 area," the company said in the posting.

An El Paso spokesman was not immediately available for comment. (Reporting by Eileen Moustakis; Editing by Marguerita Choy)
