High wind leaves 250,000 without power in Georgia
HOUSTON, April 13 (Reuters) - About 250,000 homes and businesses were without power on Monday across Georgia after high winds knocked trees into power lines, said a spokeswoman for the state's largest utility.
Georgia Power, a unit of Southern Co (SO.N: Quote, Profile, Research), said outages reached 220,000 customers at mid-day Monday in the Atlanta metropolitan area, according to a utility spokeswoman.
High winds, trailing a line of severe storms, began disrupting service Sunday evening, she said.
The utility has called for crews from several states to assist in the restoration effort, but high winds continue to buffet the state, she said. (Reporting by Eileen O'Grady; Editing by John Picinich)
