SAO PAULO, March 19 (Reuters) - Brazil's benchmark stock index fell about 3 percent on Wednesday as a slump in oil and other commodity prices dragged down the shares of state-controlled Petrobras and mining company Vale.
The Bovespa index .BVSP of the Sao Paulo stock exchange fell to 60,077.38 from Tuesday's close of 61,932.78.
Petrobras (PETR4.SA: Quote, Profile, Research), the heaviest weighted stock in the index, fell 4.63 percent as crude prices tumbled nearly 5 percent in international markets. Vale (VALE5.SA: Quote, Profile, Research) was down 4.4 percent as prices of copper and other industrial metals declined.
