UPDATE 1-China power output growth to turn positive in June
(Adds details, background)
BEIJING, June 26 (Reuters) - China said on Friday its electricity output will show a year-on-year rise in June, for the first time since last October, due to a recovering economy and hotter-than-usual weather.
Power generation in the world's second-largest electricity market is expected to rise 2.37 percent this month over June last year, the National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC) said on its website, www.ndrc.gov.cn.
China's power consumption in the first five months fell 4 percent on the year, Zhang Guobao, the country's top energy official, said in early June, as a slowing economy hit many electricity-intensive heavy industries.
At the same time last year China was experiencing its worst power shortage since 2004, caused by a shortage of coal and reluctance by generators to stockpile the fuel because of capped tariffs that cut into their profit margins. (Reporting by Chen Aizhu, editing by Anthony Barker)
