Panama says establishes formal diplomatic ties with China

PANAMA CITY (Reuters) - Panama and China have established formal diplomatic ties, Panama’s president Juan Carlos Varela said in a televised address on Monday.

The step represents a victory for China in Central America, a region with strong diplomatic links with Taiwan.
