Investor Mayfair denies report of Escada interest
FRANKFURT, April 13 (Reuters) - Investment firm Mayfair has denied a German newspaper report that it was interested in buying German fashion house Escada (ESCG.DE: Quote, Profile, Research).
"We have no activities in that direction," Mayfair Managing Director Rainer Kutzner told Reuters on Sunday. "We are not involved there."
Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung reported that Mayfair's owners, German billionaires Guenter and Daniela Herz, were looking at loss-making Escada, without saying where it obtained the information.
Escada cut its fiscal full-year core earnings target this week, blaming further economic downturn in key markets and concern about recession in the United States, and private equity firm Apax [APAX.UL] dropped plans for a stake in Escada because of its recent share price rise and financial market weakness.
