UPDATE 1-Linn Energy Q3 profit lags Street

Nov 4 (Reuters) - Oil and gas exploration and production company Linn Energy LLC (LINE.O: Quote, Profile, Research) reported an adjusted third-quarter profit that lagged analyst estimates, hurt by lower production.

For the quarter, the company's loss from continuing operations was $82 million, or 69 cents a unit, compared to net income of $921.9 million, or $8.01, a year earlier. Excluding items, net income for the quarter was 38 cents a share.

Combined revenue from continuing operations rose 23 percent to $245 million.

Analysts on average were expecting Linn to earn 41 cents a share, on revenue of $204 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Average production was 217 million cubic feet equivalent per day (mmcfed), compared with 227.4 mmcfed a year earlier

Shares of the company closed at $25.29 Tuesday on Nasdaq.
