NEW YORK, June 9 (Reuters) - Sunoco's gasoline-making fluid catalytic cracking unit at the Girard Point section of the 335,000 barrel-per-day Philadelphia refinery failed in the initial restart attempt and it will be several days before restart is attempted again, a source familiar with refinery operations said on Tuesday.

On Monday, Sunoco filed with city regulators on Monday to restart the unit.

Last week, the unit was shut down for one week of repairs, a company spokesman said. (Reporting by Erwin Seba in Houston and Janet McGurty in New York; Editing by John Picinich)
