UPDATE 2-BP Carson, California, hydrocracker shut after fire

HOUSTON, April 11 (Reuters) - A 45,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) hydrocracker was shut on Friday at BP Plc's (BP.L: Quote, Profile, Research) 265,000 bpd Los Angeles-area refinery in Carson, California, after a brief fire Thursday night, according to sources familiar with refinery operations.

A leak in an oil line feeding a compressor on the hydrocracking unit set off the small fire, which was quickly extinguished within 10 minutes by BP workers, the sources said.

The fire and flaring from the refinery were both reported to California and Los Angeles-area pollution regulators.

In a notice filed with the Los Angeles-area air pollution regulator South Coast Air Quality Management District, BP said flaring from the Thursday night breakdown may continue through Monday.

A BP representative declined to discuss refinery operations beyond saying there were no injuries or off-site environmental impacts from the incident reported to regulators.

West Coast refined products traders said Los Angeles market wholesale gasoline prices were steady compared with Thursday. No trades had been done as of 10 a.m. PDT (1700 GMT) Friday. (Reporting by Erwin Seba in Houston and Rebekah Kebede in New York)
