UPDATE 1-SMFG to raise above 900 bln yen from offering-Nikkei
June 13 (Reuters) - Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc (8316.T: Quote, Profile, Research), Japan's third-largest bank, is expected to raise in excess of 900 billion yen ($9.19 billion) from a common stock offering slated for this month, the Nikkei business daily reported.
A common stock issuance of more than 900 billion yen would make it one of the largest by a financial institution, the paper added.
In April, the bank said it plans to raise up to 800 billion yen through a share issuance.
The bigger figure also reflects abating market turmoil from the financial crisis and fading fears about the health of banks, the paper said.
The offering is likely to take place at the end of this month, Nikkei said. ($1=97.96 Yen) (Reporting by Dhanya Ann Thoppil in Bangalore; Editing by Ratul Ray Chaudhuri)
