Nov 4 (Reuters) - Diagnostic products maker Becton Dickinson & Co (BDX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) posted a 10 percent increase in fourth-quarter income from continuing operations, helped by higher sales at its medical and diagnostic units.
For the fourth quarter ended Sept. 30, the company posted a net income from continuing operations of $305.8 million, or $1.25 per share, compared with $278.9 million, or $1.11 per share, a year ago.
Quarterly revenue rose 5 percent to $1.89 billion.
Analysts, on average, were expecting fourth-quarter earnings of $1.25 a share, excluding items, on revenue of $1.85 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Revenue from the company's medical unit rose 8.2 percent to $1 billion, while sales at the diagnostics' unit rose 5 percent to $580 million.
The company said it expects fiscal 2010 revenue to rise 6 percent, while full-year earnings from continuing operations is expected to grow between 1 and 3 percent. (Reporting by Sakthi Prasad in Bangalore; Editing by Aradhana Aravindan)
