BRUSSELS, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Belgian holding company Ackermans & van Haaren (ACKB.BR: Quote, Profile, Research) and Belgian energy company Electrabel (GSZ.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) will join forces to create a new renewable energy company, a spokeswoman for Electrabel said on Wednesday.

The spokeswoman declined to provide further details.

Belgian daily De Standaard reported the new firm would form a part of Ackermans & van Haaren's newly-created energy segment, one of five key sectors on which the holding focuses.

The Belgian government has asked French utility GDF Suez (GSZ.PA: Quote, Profile, Research), which owns Electrabel, to invest 500 million euros ($741.8 million) in renewable energy in Belgium from 2010 in return for an extended life for three Belgian nuclear reactors.
