Bechtel 2008 revenue up 16 pct; orders edge higher
SAN FRANCISCO, April 13 (Reuters) - Bechtel, the largest U.S. engineering and construction company, booked $35 billion in new work in 2008 and saw revenue grow by 16 percent to $31.4 billion despite a tough end to the year.
North America generated about 40 percent of revenue and more than two-thirds of bookings, the privately held company, which does not disclose its profits, said in its 2008 annual report released on Monday.
The $35 billion in new work that Bechtel booked last year compared with $34.1 billion in 2007.
Bechtel, which manages projects ranging from nuclear reactors and oil refineries to government services and transportation, competes with companies that include Fluor Corp (FLR.N: Quote, Profile, Research), Jacobs Engineering Group Inc (JEC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and URS Corp (URS.N: Quote, Profile, Research).
