LIMA, April 14 (Reuters) - A strike at Doe Run Peru's La Oroya smelter and metallurgical facility has cut output some 25 percent, an official at the U.S.-owned company said on Monday.
The plant, 108 miles (174 km) east of Lima, the capital, processes iron, zinc, copper, silver and gold.
Workers struck 10 days ago to press for better working conditions and a greater share of profits.
Peruvian law requires mining companies to share a portion of profit with their workers.
"In global terms, Doe Run Peru is producing at 75 percent," Victor Belaunde, director of institutional relations, told Reuters by phone.
Last year, Doe Run Peru produced 120,000 tonnes of iron, 60,000 tonnes of copper and 40,000 tonnes of zinc.
Peru is the world's second-largest producer of copper and zinc and its fifth-largest producer of gold. (Reporting by Maria Luisa Palomino; Writing by Dana Ford; Editing by Walter Bagley)
