LONDON, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Brief reports of Premier League matches played on Saturday:

ASTON VILLA 4 NEWCASTLE UNITED 1

Newcastle collapsed alarmingly after the break despite Michael Owen's header giving them an interval lead.

Wilfred Bouma levelled with a deflected shot and John Carew made it 2-1 after 51 minutes with a glancing header. Norwegian Carew completed his hat-trick with another reflex header and a late penalty after Stephen Carr had handled the ball.

Villa climbed to fifth but Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan is still waiting for his first victory, five games after returning as manager.

BOLTON WANDERERS 0 PORTSMOUTH 1

Portsmouth collected their eighth away league victory of the season, although they were fortunate to take the three points.

January signing Lassana Diarra struck with nine minutes to go but Pompey needed a superb reflex save by England keeper David James from Tamir Cohen's point-blank shot late on.  Continued...
