LONDON, April 27 (Reuters) - Sports news in brief from around the world:

Soccer - Steven Gerrard is confident that Liverpool's impressive form against Chelsea this season will help them upset the odds in Wednesday's Champions League semi-final return leg.

"We were the better team when we played them in the league at Anfield and again in the Champions League only for both games to end in draws," Gerrard told www.liverpoolfc.tv on Sunday, referring to two 1-1 home draws.

"Chelsea have a great home record and we haven't done too well down there (no goals in eight games) but history will go out of the window that night."

Rugby - The European Challenge Cup final in Gloucester on May 25 will be between Bath and Worcester after they both won all-English semi-finals at the weekend. Bath beat Sale 36-14 on Saturday and Worcester beat Newcastle 31-16 on Friday.

Cycling - 2006 Giro d'Italia winner Ivan Basso has agreed to a plea bargain with a prosecutor investigating his involvement in the Operation Puerto doping scandal, he told Italian media.

Basso, who returns from a sporting ban in October, has asked to pay a fine rather than the case going to court. A judge will have the final say.
