July 3 (Reuters) - Factbox on striker Michael Owen who left Newcastle United for Premier League champions Manchester United on Friday.

Known for his lightning pace and a lethal finish, Owen has struggled for form and fitness in recent years.

EARLY YEARS

* Born in Chester, England on Dec. 14, 1979.

* Spent childhood living in Welsh county of Clwyd.

* His father Terry was also a professional footballer and played for 14 clubs including Everton.

* Joined Liverpool as an apprentice before signing a professional contract in 1996.
