Soccer-Rome mayor plays down police strike threat for final
ROME, May 9 (Reuters) - An agreement will be reached to avoid a police strike on the night of the Champions League final, Rome mayor Gianni Alemanno said on Saturday.
Holders Manchester United meet Barcelona at Rome's Stadio Olimpico on May 27 and some police unions have threatened to strike because of unhappiness over pay and conditions.
"We have made some steps forward and next week we will find an agreement," the mayor told reporters.
Stabbings have occurred at several European matches in Rome in recent years but UEFA stuck with its decision to host the final in the Italian capital despite criticism.
