Soccer-Australia unsure of team but confident for China
SINGAPORE, March 22 (Reuters) - Australia coach Pim Verbeek said on Saturday he was waiting to hear about the availability of Europe-based players before picking his team to face China in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday.
Verbeek said he was confident about the match in Kunming. "We will be very prepared. We know everything about China and we will go to China to win," he said after a lacklustre friendly 0-0 draw against Singapore on a waterlogged pitch.
Australia, hoping to make up for a disappointing Asian Cup last year, were captained by Liverpool's Harry Kewell but fielded many younger players and the team lacked a cutting edge.
"It was difficult to create chances," Verbeek told reporters, after seeing his side kept out by the bar in the first half and several good saves in the second. (Reporting by Neil Chatterjee and Tan Wei Xin, Editing by Clare Fallon)
