BERLIN (Reuters) - German authorities said on Friday they had arrested a 45-year-old German national of Pakistani origin on suspicion of delivering money to al Qaeda and of learning how to make bombs for use in terrorist attacks.

The federal prosecutors' office said the man, identified as Aleem N., had travelled to the Pakistani-Afghan border four times during 2005-2007 and had each time delivered at least 4,000 euros ($5,874) to al Qaeda operatives in the area.

The man, who was arrested on Thursday, is also suspected of supplying binoculars, radio and night vision equipment to al Qaeda, and of recruiting members in Germany.

In a statement, the prosecutors' office said authorities were searching the man's apartment in the south western town of Germersheim, and that the investigation was ongoing.
