Spanish stocks - Factors to watch on Monday

IBERDROLA (IBE.MC: Quote, Profile, Research)
The board of British Energy (BGY.L: Quote, Profile, Research) is expected to recommend a 10 billion pound takeover bid by EDF (EDF.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) within a fortnight, and an announcement could be made as early as this week, Britain's Observer newspaper reported on Sunday.
Germany's RWE (RWEG.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) and Iberdrola (IBE.MC: Quote, Profile, Research), the remaining two bidders, have not formally withdrawn from the auction. An EDF bid for British Energy all but kills the chance that the French firm will try to buy Iberdrola, analysts say.
TELEFONICA (TEF.MC: Quote, Profile, Research)
Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, who controls Mexico's dominant fixed-line telephone operator Telmex (TELMEXL.MX: Quote, Profile, Research) (TMX.N: Quote, Profile, Research), is interested in investing in Spain's telecommunications market, he said in an interview with newspaper El Pais on Sunday.
