Doctors find first case of H1N1 transmitted in Italy
ROME (Reuters) - Italy reported on Friday the first case of the H1N1 flu strain transmitted within the country, after a 70-year-old man in Rome caught the virus from his grandson who returned from a holiday in Mexico.
It was the eighth recorded case of the H1N1 virus in Italy, but the earlier cases had been contracted outside the country, the Health Ministry said in a statement.
The man, who is recovering in Rome's Spallanzani hospital, caught the flu after coming into "close family contact" with the 11-year-old boy.
