AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored twice as Ajax Amsterdam defeated arch-rivals Feyenoord 3-0 in the Dutch league on Sunday.

Ajax dominated the match from the start and came close to taking the lead after 16 seconds when Huntelaar forced goalkeeper Henk Timmer to stretch to save a close-range attempt.

Full back Johnny Heitinga broke through the Feyenoord defence after eight minutes to open the scoring and on the stroke of halftime a defensive blunder from Tim de Cler gave Gabri the opportunity to set up Huntelaar to double the lead.

In the second half Ajax squandered a handful of chances but in the final minute Huntelaar scored his 21st goal this season.

With 11 matches remaining PSV Eindhoven, 2-0 winners at AZ Alkmaar on Saturday, are top with 52 points, eight more than Ajax.

Heerenveen are third with 43 points, after their 7-0 rampage over Vitesse Arnhem on Saturday, while Feyenoord are fourth with 41.
