Federer beaten in Dubai first round by Murray
DUBAI (Reuters) - World number one Roger Federer suffered his first opening round defeat since 2004 when he was beaten 6-7 6-3 6-4 by Britain's Andy Murray in the Dubai Championships on Monday.
The Swiss 12-times grand slam champion was last beaten in the first round of a tournament at the Cincinnati Masters in August 2004.
"Each time I've played him, I've stepped up my game," Murray said after recording his second victory against Federer, who had been the defending champion in Dubai.
Murray, who has won two tournaments this year, did not face a break point in the one hour 54-minute match.
