SOFIA (Reuters) - Georgi Vasilev resigned as coach of Greek Super League club Levadiakos on Monday a day after his team slumped to a 3-0 home defeat by fellow strugglers OFI Crete.

"I've decided to quit as I think Levadiakos is a club who have a limited potential," the Bulgarian told Darik radio. "I think people who know the atmosphere of Greek football better will do a better job until the end of the season."

Levadiakos lie 13th in the standings with 21 points, only a point above the relegation zone with seven matches remaining.

The 61-year-old won the Bulgarian league title on four occasions with three different clubs between 1991 and 1997.

He also guided Union Berlin to the German Cup final in 2001, making them the first German amateur club to play in European club competition.
